my mother

Doña Blanca

This is my mother who lighted the path for criticality and social justice in my life.

Her name is Blanca and it means the colour white in English. White for transparency and honesty – to be true to yourself and others. As a single mother who barely finished second grade, she brought up two children and taught us to be resilient, strong and humble. She told us to be nice, to be good, to educate ourselves and resist all forms of oppression. Through struggle and humility, she keeps teaching us to always walk and work with our hearts and passions in our hands while connecting, learning and understanding others. My work towards social justice, equity and anti-oppression in teaching and research is rooted in her teachings and everyday praxis.
